Getting started
Your first build
In short
- Add your project: the GitHub repository as owner/name and a default branch.
- We set up the build steps with you. The project then shows "Ready".
- Start a build: pick the target and a revision.
- Download the files and check each SHA-256.
1. Add your project
In the dashboard, open Projects and choose Add a project. Step 1 asks for a name and the repository as owner/name, for example acme/shop-app. Step 2 asks for the default branch, the target (Windows x64 for now; more targets come later) and a short note on how you build today.
The dashboard refuses URLs, tokens, keys and build commands. You never paste a secret here. We read your note and set up the build steps with you. When they are ready, the project shows Ready.
2. Access to a private repository
A public repository needs nothing. For a private one, we agree read-only access with you when we switch on building for your account. You can take that access back at any time on GitHub.
3. Start a build
Open Builds and choose Start a build. Pick the project, then a revision: a branch such as main, a tag such as v1.4.0, or a commit such as 8f31c2a. Leave it empty to build the default branch.
The build page shows each stage and the exact commit that was built. You can leave the page; the result stays. You can cancel a running build. A failed, cancelled or interrupted build can be run again with one button.
4. What each status means
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| … Queued | Waiting for a free build slot. Queue time is not counted. |
| ▶ Running | Preparing, fetching the commit, building or saving the files. |
| ✓ Done | The build worked. The files and their SHA-256 are listed. |
| ✕ Failed | A build step failed. The log shows which one and why. |
| ✕ Cancelled | You cancelled it. Every process it started was stopped. |
| ! Interrupted | The runner restarted during the build. Nothing was kept. Run it again. |
| ○ Not connected | Building is not switched on for your account yet. Nothing has run. |
5. Check the files you download
Every file has a SHA-256. After you download it, compare the hash. On Linux or macOS:
sha256sum shop-app-windows-x64.zip
On Windows (PowerShell):
Get-FileHash .\shop-app-windows-x64.zip -Algorithm SHA256
The two values must match exactly. The name, size and hash of each file stay in your list even after the file itself is no longer kept.
6. Limits
- Nothing is free. Building is inactive until it is priced, and sign-up is closed.
- Your plan sets the number of projects and the build minutes. Only running time counts, per second.
- 1 build at a time. The files are release assets with a receipt that lists every file hash.
